They're all highways connecting metro manila to the provinces. Yes, they make life easier for the motorists to and fro the NCR. The highways are continuously being improved to make traveling pleasant for the drivers and commuters. They are the signs of development, of progress, of government action to bridge the metro with the provinces. They are the forefront programs to build farm to city roads to support economic activities, to boost commerce and trade, and entice foreign and local investors to do business in the country. Its the free market economy working. Its good for the country. Its good for the people. Its how the Filipinos should live.
But wait! Something's not quite right. Something's been over-looked. Something's been accepted as it is because the government says so.
The big question: Why are the public paying for passing these highways? Why are we paying for the supposedly progressive economy? Isn't it supposed to make life easier for the Filipinos?
The answer is easy: The roads and highways are PRIVATE PROPERTY.
The government encourages companies to build these roads. And in return, they can charge each passing vehicle an amount to take back the investments. Business on the go. Economic activity on play.
It seems easy to understand. All invested money should have a return on investment. Who would like to invest without earning something in return. Only a fool will do. Or that's what the government, or the capitalist system as a whole, is teaching us. That's what they like us to accept. That's what they're making us to believe as a way of life.
Only a change in the system can change this policy. Let's change the system, not only the charter.
SYSTEMS CHANGE, NOT CHARTER CHANGE!
