Present Day China

China has transferred her form of government from State Capitalism (not communism, because workers in china never tasted the fruits of their hard labor) to Capitalism based in globalization. China right now opened its doors to western capitalism. To most people, this move of government, and all present activities in China, is for progress. Sure anyone can see the difference from the old system, specially the youth sector, who are enjoying the present lifestyle of commercialism and consumerism. But there are those who don't like this shift of government form and its economic policies, specially in the housing sector. There are massive demolition of the old housing units and massive construction of office skyscrapers and condos. This is not bad at all, because condos are far more progressive than row houses, except for the fact that these are private properties. I don't know exactly other minute details of this government economic policy on housing, but one thing's for sure, under capitalism, progress is not for everybody, but for a few who happens to belong in the upper and middle class. In China, these are those who are from the government bureaucracy before and their network of relatives and friends. These comprises the present day upper and middle class.

The posted pictures will narrate my point. Demolition is everywhere. After demolishing the old red rowhouses made mostly of bricks, high rise condos and offices are being built. Land is owned by the government and is being lent to investors, not sold or mortgaged, to be bought or mortgaged after a certain time. This is a tactic to lure capitalists to invest their money in China. Labor is cheap. But the bad side of this is that the masses are being displaced from their houses and relocated somewhere else. Where's the social content of this present move of China for progress? So people are taking to the streets to demand their struggles.

Surely progress under capitalism doesn't work for everybody, but for a privileged few. If we want progress for all, we must strive for socialism!
