Another Malitbog power plant unit repaired, says EDC

Another Malitbog power plant unit repaired, says EDC

This is good for our Visayan friends ravaged by Yolanda. Households can now have continuous supply of electricity. Hospitals and other health care centers can bring back their services using power. Industries can operate back to original pace and spur-up the economy. But what is ultimately wrong but unseen in this scenario? When you read the article from The Inquirer, you can note that the Lopez-owned Energy Development Corp reported its status to the Philippine Stock Exchange. The stockholders in the PSE, the big business, the elites, supported by government officials, care about their stocks in EDC, amidst the hopelessness, anxiety, and fear of the Samarenos and Leytenos. Isn't that somewhat disturbing? The PSE people is betting their money in a power producer to accumulate wealth and profit, which will come from the people of the typhoon ravaged area. To put it in another view, the EDC repaired its power plant to sell power to consumers, thereby gaining profit from the business. The bottom line here is business, not people rehabilitation. Profit not social services. Business not people empowerment. That's the problem.
