First you're humiliated by the cops. The your personal life is put on trial. After years for waiting for justice, you're forced to relive it in every excruciating detail... only to find that the investigation was flawed, freeing your attackers while you're labeled "damaged goods" by your friends and neighbors.
This is life for the growing number of rape survivors in India -- most of it thanks to the Delhi-NCR police.
Tehelka, a local paper, has released an article revealing a level of misogyny almost unprecedented in any police force. According to these cops:
  1. Unless a woman is covered head to toe, she wants men to rape her.
  2. If a woman is in a sexual relationship and is unmarried, she deserved to be raped by him and his friends.
  3. If she was around drunk men, she's lying about being raped to protect her "wayward" reputation.
  4. Upper class women don't know how to behave, and lower class women are all prostitutes.
  5. And the worst by far: If you were "really" raped, you'd be too ashamed to say anything; so if you're "complaining," you must be making it up.
If we were to apply this insane litmus test to our mothers, our daughters, our sisters and our friends, none of us would make the grade. According to Delhi police, all of us deserve to be raped -- and if we don't speak out, attacks in India will only get worse. Tell Delhi Police Chief Neeraj Kumar to address the tie between his officers and rising rape rates now!

PETITION TO CHIEF KUMAR: Tehelka's expose on your police force illustrates how much the misogyny in Delhi's officer corps needed to be address. Help battle the stigma against reporting rape -- take your officers to task for blaming the victim, now!
