The Presidentiables

This early, we can already see on TV politicians having ads that say they can save the country from being poor (Villar), that he can lead the fight to end poverty (Roxas), or lead the fight for a non-corrupt government that ensures equality among Filipinos (Lacson) (of all people). Can we really believe them? I think they had their share of being a politician, but nothing happened during their stint at any office of the bureaucracy. They have not helped the majority of the people. The prices of goods still are too much for an ordinary citizen earning minimum wage. How much more for those earning less. The prices are being dictated by what economists call "market forces," or the "law of supply and demand." As the demand goes higher, prices will go up, as it becomes less, prices go down. This law makes the capitalist economy crumble. The supply of goods is continuous, but the demand becomes less and less, due to the fact that the people cannot afford to buy them. How can this system survive with this kind of cycle. Now if those saying that they can change the lives of the people with pure ambitions and slogans, then we should not vote for them. We should go for those who will change the system, who will replace the economic policies that are killing our small farmers and fisherfolks, and who will replace the laws that put priority on the dictates of the giant economies of the developed countries. We have yet to see somebody who can do this, not from the opposition, and definitely not from the ruling party. But the time is ripe for the common people to speak, and choose among themselves who can represent them. When that time comes, let's all be part of that struggle.
